i like that magic carpet ride senario - may be the entire book will be a wild ride of risking magic. cool.

yup that feather is a real balancing act like that. sometimes i float them. sometimes they have to balance on their own.

you got it. this is THE altered book. The first one i started. i had actually started it probably almost 2 years ago now. Altering Books and a lot of Mail Art, where it is today, had shifted a lot from a time when i was doing a very different version of Mail art. a couple of years ago i was plunging in but didnt have a good sense of how to go about it to get at the way i wanted my work to be... so i needed time to understand what that was. through your work and many others i've gained a great deal of understanding and want to re-start a number of things that i began when Mail Art opened up for me in this new era.

these two pages actually face each other. my scanner isnt quite big enough to do a double page spread of this book. i'll have to use a camera if i want to do that, or i could do it in a graphics program. these two pages visually work ok together but they are really separate pieces. much of the feather side was done when i first began in this book. the carpet side i did last night and added some work to the feather side to bring it nearer to completion.

there are a couple of more pages that i began when i first decided to alter this book. i'll deal with those when i come to them. i like where this book is setting off to now.

i've also learned that for me it's better to find out where the book goes rather than to try to pre-determine too much about the course it will take. i work better that way than under a tight concept that may or may not hold my course. so i've decided not to do the cover until i know where the book really goes and i've given it a working title, which i like but i know it could change depending on what happens.

i've been asked to do several altering book projects with people as collaborations over the past couple of years so i dont know if i'll actually get to work in this book every day. i'd like to tho. i like that kind of working process.

    i'm having fun. - aloha - Wrick
