This is the 3rd of Four Mixed Media ATCs that were similar from a year ago (2007). It includes digital drawing and painting - which was then printed as a photo, cut to size and attached with grommets to an ATC that was painted with watercolor.

Two Small Paintings

These are from a (Small) "Daily Painting" routine I began in October 2008. The number on each painting is in reference to this daily routine.

The painting numbers help me to keep track of the paintings. It's possible that I sometimes use duplicate titles (which is usually unintentional), but it's not likely that my numbers will duplicate in each year. So I can identify a painting by Title, Painting Number and the Year.

Originally I had intended to finish a painting each day. I've since found that I'm working, reworking and starting new pieces over a period of several days (and sometimes longer). Because of this I often end up working on several pieces during a painting session and I don’t always finish a piece every day.

I've been making my own stencils to use in different ways. Some of the shapes in these pieces are drawn and some are made using my stencils.

Some time ago I created a number of "Stencils" by drawing on blank plastic stencil sheets and then carefully cutting the designs out with an Exacto blade. Once I was finished cutting the stencils I saved both the negative and positive shapes.

My idea was to use the stencil sheets for rubbings with colored pencils and in various other ways. Many of the designs I drew were from local rock drawings or petroglyphs although some were of other things as well.

The colored pencil "ROCK BEING" rubbing is now part of my letter R Skinny Alphabet Book page.

Recently with my envelope embellishment I wondered if I could use the stencils as stencils. I tried out several in a sketchbook. One of these (DOUBLE DOGS) has now become part of another Skinny Alphabet Book page as a Linear Painting for the letter L with the title; DOGS OF THE DRAGON.

This is the next step in my Mail Art envelope pieces as Mail Art containers.

Sending it without using a sticky label worked fine. Unless there is a reason for it i dont think i'll have to use the labels. cool on that.

There are no postage stamps on this one because it was going out of the country. The stamps when applied were great.

It would be fun to see how one of these arrive. What additions are added along the journey. My philosophy is that what ever happens in the post becomes part of the piece. ...not that i want a lot to happen, but i have to be able to let go of that stuff some how, understanding it as part of the process helps in that acceptance of what happens.


R is for Raku, Rubbing & Ream

This is the next Skinny Alphabet Book page - the letter R with dimensions. this was a challenge for me because of the way i've chosen to create my Skinny Book with Digital Technology.

I've simulated the Grommets and attaching the Rubbing altho in the final form i could do this and that would create the dimensional part of the process. At this point the piece is an adaptation of the Challenge (to use dimension in the work) in that respect.

The Raku Cylinder Cup is one i did a number of years ago while in upstate NY altho i photographed it on the day i created this Skinny Book page (a day or two ago). I like it. it works well for my R word in the Skinny Book - imo.
